چکیده

We report the results of an experimental study to determine influence pressure on diffusion creep in wet olivine. In order observe at high-pressure conditions laboratory strain rates, we prepared ultra-fine grained (0.22–0.72 μm) olivine aggregates both from San Carlos and oxide mixtures using a solgel technique. All samples contain some water (~1000 ppm wt) presumably due adsorption fine-grained powder samples. used Deformation-DIA (D-DIA) coupled with synchrotron X-ray facility (6-BM-B beamline APS) perform in-situ high (3–10 GPa) deformation experiments temperature range 973–1123 K. The operation our was inferred weak (hkl) dependence lattice strain, much smaller strength compared expected for dislocation creep, estimate stress exponent. Diffusion also confirmed comparison previous lower pressures. assume flow low following form ε˙∝CWrd−mexp−PV∗RT (ε̇: rate, CW: content, d: grain size) r = 0.7–1.0 m 2 or 3, which obtain activation volume (V*) 2.5 +/− 0.6 cm3/mol. This is substantially than that implying plays important role deep upper mantle. Some implications seismic anisotropy are discussed.

Diffusion creep of dry, melt-free olivine

[1] Deformation experiments were conducted on fine-grained (3–6 mm), fully synthetic Fo90 olivine aggregates in a gas-medium apparatus at 300 MPa confining pressure and temperatures of 1150–1360 C. The strain rates of the solution-gelation-derived and therefore genuinely melt-free, dry samples are about two orders of magnitude lower than the strain rates for nominally melt-free aggregates at th...

Amoeboid Olivine Aggregates in CR Chondrites

Introduction: Amoeboid Olivine Aggregates (AOAs) are irregular-shaped, fine-grained aggregates of olivine and refractory minerals and are important components of C chondrites. The AOAs in CV chondrites have been interpreted to be primary nebular condensates [1] and therefore, can provide constraints on models for nebular condensation. AOAs are intermediate in composition, and may be a link, bet...

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...
